Your Potential, Your Privileges

God puts you in places for a reason.  I am coming to learn this, amongst many other things, as our family goes through a heavy "wait, this isn't how life was supposed to be" trial. We moved so many times. More apartments then years we had been married in fact.  Each time, a new church - my main source of friendship and socialization - and time to get to know people all over again (my absolutely least favorite social activity, being incredibly socially awkward.

But, here in this new condo, and the new church I met L., one in a series of women who would come to change my whole outlook on life and, thereby, my whole life.  Mr. S. and I had just gone through a major setback in our journey to "The Perfect Life" and he was now loyally working miserable, low-paying jobs just to try to do right by his family.  Where were we to go next?  What was our next step?  What was our future going to be?  We wanted to go where God wanted us to go and do what He wanted us to do, but what was that?  How were we to know?  We had sought His council before and here we were.

Then L., one of my new friends at my new church told me her family had just gone through the same thing.  The SAME thing.  "What did you do!?!?!" I practically threw myself at her because this woman is/was beautiful, graceful, elegant, stylish, happily married with a beautiful family, and everything else that I wanted to be.  I would have never guessed she would have ever gone through a trial, let alone a crisis like I felt I was going through.

She said she and her husband decided together that they would take time every day to turn off the tv, turn off the music, and read the scriptures and the words of the Prophets.  They would take time each day to ponder in their minds the questions and concerns they had - the needs of their children and their family as a whole.  Not always together, but united.  She also commented later on avoiding parties and social situations where she would find herself envious and leave unsatisfied with her own circumstances.  The combination of these things seemed to open up a channel in their lives through which understanding, answers and unfathomable blessing came.

Or, in other words...

2:38 - "As you read the scriptures and listen to the words of the Prophets with all your heart and mind the Lord will tell you how to live up to your privileges and we will be able to do all things through Christ who strengthens us."
